Throughout my endurance training, I have learned many invaluable lessons. Among them, one stands out profoundly: the importance of truly listening to my body. This lesson holds true for any level of physical activity, as there exists a delicate balance between discomfort and potential harm. It is crucial to attune ourselves to the signals our bodies share, indicating when we have reached our limits for a training session or race. Failing to do so may lead to injuries that hinder our progress and prevent us from crossing the finish line or achieving our goals.

I carried this fundamental skill beyond the realm of physical activity, extending it to my diet, lifestyle, and everything that influenced my well-being, particularly my digestion. I began to genuinely listen to my body, paying attention to the warning signs when certain foods or beverages did not agree with me. I also discovered the amount of sleep my body truly needed and identified effective stress management techniques tailored to my unique needs. However, regrettably, I learned these lessons later than I would have liked.

In my late 30s; despite having completed countless races, the consequences of my poor dietary and lifestyle choices caught up with me. The harsh reality dawned upon me—I couldn't simply outrun the effects of my fork.

The realization hit hard, yet it became a turning point in my journey. I understood that achieving optimum well-being required more than just physical endurance. It demanded a holistic approach, one that involved nourishing my body with proper nutrition, making mindful lifestyle choices, and embracing self-care practices that supported my overall health.
